Day 1: From Tbilisi to Mtskheta’s Timeless Charm, Ananuri’s Majestic Views, and Onward to Stepantsminda
We begin our journey in Tbilisi in the morning, gathering downtown before heading north toward Stepantsminda, also known as Kazbegi. Along the way, we visit Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, to explore the iconic Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a masterpiece of Georgian medieval architecture, and to experience the profound sense of history that this sacred site embodies. Next, we continue our journey with a stop at the historic Ananuri Fortress, which overlooks the picturesque Aragvi River. The drive reveals Georgia’s diverse landscapes, transitioning from gentle hills to the dramatic peaks of the Greater Caucasus. By late afternoon, we arrive in Stepantsminda, where we settle in and prepare for the adventures that lie ahead, all while being surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.

Day 2: From Stepantsminda to the Mountain Hut “Deka”: Ascending to the Alpine Haven
We begin our day with an early breakfast in Stepantsminda, gearing up for the adventure ahead. A short drive takes us to the Sameba Trinity Church, situated at 2,200 meters, where the stunning views of Mount Kazbek set the stage for our trek. The journey to Mountain Hut “Deka” involves a steady ascent of 840 meters through alpine meadows and rugged trails. The shifting landscape and crisp mountain air serve as a reminder of the challenges and rewards of trekking in the Greater Caucasus. After approximately three hours, we arrive at the mountain hut, situated at 3,020 meters. Here, we take the time to rest and acclimatize, surrounded by breathtaking peaks. The hut provides a simple yet inviting atmosphere, where the shared experiences of fellow trekkers and the magnificent mountain scenery create a rewarding pause in our journey.

Day 3: Ascending to the Base Camp: From Alpine Hut “Deka” at 3,020 meters to the Base camp (Betlemi hut) 3,650 meters
We begin our day with breakfast at the Mountain Hut “Deka,” prepared to take on the next phase of our journey. The trail ahead leads us to the Mount Kazbek base camp, also known as Betlemi Hut, situated at an elevation of 3,650 meters. This leg of the trek involves a steady ascent of 630 vertical meters over the course of approximately three hours. As we ascend, the landscape transforms once more, unveiling the dramatic terrain of the Greater Caucasus. Upon reaching Betlemi Hut, we settle in for a well-deserved break and enjoy lunch amidst the stunning high-altitude scenery. In the afternoon, we focus on essential mountaineering skills, including walking with crampons, using an ice axe, and mastering rope techniques. These training sessions are vital for ensuring safety and building confidence as we prepare for the challenges of the summit. Betlemi Hut offers a rugged yet inviting refuge, where the camaraderie of the group and the majesty of the surrounding mountains create an unforgettable experience.

Day 4: Acclimatization and Altitude Adaptation
Today is dedicated to acclimatization, a crucial step in preparing our bodies for the altitude ahead. After breakfast at Betlemi Hut, we embarked on a hike to 4,000 meters, which will help us adapt to the thinner air while enjoying stunning views of the Greater Caucasus. The hike challenges our endurance and helps us acclimate to the conditions we will encounter during the summit attempt. Reaching an altitude of 4,000 meters is a significant milestone, providing a sense of progress and determination for the days ahead.

Day 5: The Summit Day – Conquering Mount Kazbek
Our summit push begins in the quiet hours of the night, with an early breakfast at 1:00 a.m. By 2:00 a.m., we step into the dark, heading toward the Kazbek Plateau at 4,500 meters (~4 hours). The steady climb tests both endurance and determination. From the plateau, the challenge intensifies as we ascend to the Kazbek Saddle at 4,900 meters, navigating steeper gradients of 30–45 degrees with the aid of ice axes and fixed ropes. Above 3,900 meters, we traverse glacial terrain, carefully roped together to navigate the crevasses safely. Reaching the top at 5,033 meters is a moment of pure triumph, offering breathtaking views of the Caucasus. After taking in the scenery, we begin our descent to base camp at 3,650 meters or the Alpine Hut “Deka” at 3,020 meters, depending on conditions. It is a challenging day that rewards every ounce of effort with an unforgettable sense of accomplishment.

Day 6: From Alpine Heights to Tbilisi: Completing the Journey
Our day begins with breakfast at the Alpine Hut "Deka," followed by a scenic 5 km descent to the Sameba Trinity Church, which takes approximately 2 hours. This final stretch provides an opportunity to reflect on the incredible journey, surrounded by the grandeur of the mountains one last time.
From the church, we begin our drive back to Tbilisi, making meaningful stops along the way. We explore the historic Ananuri Fortress, which overlooks the Aragvi River, and visit the iconic Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia. Arriving in Tbilisi, we celebrate the conclusion of an unforgettable adventure. The memories of the towering peaks, vibrant culture, and shared moments of camaraderie will stay with us long after the trek has ended—a journey that has touched our souls and left an indelible mark.

Day 7: Reserve Day - Patience in the Peaks
This day is set aside as a buffer in case weather conditions delay the summit attempt. In the unpredictable world of high-altitude trekking, flexibility is crucial, and this reserve day guarantees that we have the opportunity to safely reach our goal if nature demands patience.
